Saint-André-de-Cubzac, Aquitaine, France
Northeast of Bordeaux in the small commune of Saint André de Cubzac there is a rough monument to the 45th Parallel. The stele stands on a bluff called the Montalon with a panoramic view over the Dordogne river. Just behind are several round tower ruins of eighteenth century windmills, a local landmark. There were once a dozen windmills on this hilltop which ground grain from the rich farmland around, land which nowadays is more often planted with the famous vineyards of the Bordeaux region.
The inscription on the monument reads:
