The Orange Show - Houston, Texas

The Orange Show was built by Jeff McKissack as a shrine to his favorite fruit, the orange. While working as a letter carrier he was inspired to bring home materials scavenged along his route and began building in 1956. On the two lots next to his house he worked for 25 years to build displays about oranges, a small theater, stairways, tiled walls and balconies in a sort of labyrinth in bright colors. He opened the site to the public in 1979, but less than a year later died from complications of a stroke.

Fortunately the Orange Show was preserved by fans of the site and was opened again to the public as the Orange Show Center for Visionary Art.
