MAORI CHIEF ROCK
at Pororari Beach, near Punakaiki, Westland.
This interesting rock outcrop at the sea's edge, appropriately named for its likeness to a Maori Chief's head, is one of the features of Punakiki. It is adjacent to the well-known Pancake Rocks and Blowholes, and can be seen from Highway 6 midway between Westport and Greymouth. The whole area is celebrated for its fine coastal views and outstanding scenery.
