H.G. Hartman built his concrete and rock garden between 1932 and 1939. What started as a simple fish pond construction project encouraged Hartman to keep building dozens of miniature buildings and tableaux of historic places and events. The tiny stone castles and houses merge gracefully with the larger scale walls of the garden inset with niches of biblical scenes and dedications to popular figures who caught Hartman's fancy.

Mr. Hartman passed away in 1944, but the garden is still maintained by Hartman's son and is still open to the public whenever someone is home.
