Snowshoe Mountain is a downhill ski resort opened in 1974 on Cheat Mountain. In homage to local logging history, the ski runs are named after logging terms, such as "Ballhooter" a term for lumberjacks who felled trees on steep slopes.

This rugged face under the Ballhooter chair lift was enhanced with a birch log for a cigarette, or other rolled smoke, by ski patrol pranksters in the 1970s. The outcrop was dynamited in the mid 1990s to make room for a new express chairlift.
