Grotto of the Sacred Heart
Farther down the road is another large construction, the Sacred Heart Shrine, completed in 1930. Here a statue of Jesus is nearly overwhelmed by the enormous concrete columns covered in white quartz with spirals of colored glass and sandstone shifter knobs. A smaller niche at the base allows visitors some opportunity to come closer to the shrine, which otherwise rises too high on its pedestal for close examination.
